Backyard Bungalow Renovation a Winner in Wellington

A pool in the backyard of their Porirua home was the incentive homeowners, Marc and Jane, needed to embark on the transformation of their bungalow’s backyard. Not only did they want to create a comprehensive outdoor living space into a backyard retreat, they wanted to ensure it ticked both style and function.

Having never undertaken a renovation project before and concerned with the complexities of of managing their budget and orchestrating the scheduling required to align landscapes, builders, pool installers, and deck builders, Marc and Jane reached out to local Zones Landscaping Consultant, Abhi Kamra.

The project itself encompassed a myriad of components including preparatory works, the installation of the swimming pool, building of a deck, installation of a balustrade, and laying of artificial turf adjacent to the deck and fence areas. There was also the construction of a spacious patio and raised planter bed.

Over a six-week period, Abhi scheduled trades professionals and landscapes to prepare the site, removing excess dirt and debris, levelling the ground, digging holes for deck piles, and preparing areas with hard fill material prior to the pool being installed. Preparing patio and turf areas, defining the in-ground garden, and beginning on the deck installation took place in week two before foundation work, deck framing and coping, and pool pump shed placement emerged during week three. 

The second half of the six weeks took the project right up to the Christmas break so it was all hands on deck to complete the finishing touches – glass balustrading, artificial turf, tiles, and final site clean up. This enabled Marc and Jane to maximise their new space over the summer holidays.

A proactive approach

Throughout the project, Abhi’s team took full responsibility for the project, coordinating with subcontractors, engaging in detailed discussions with both clients and council, and alignment the project’s objectives and specifications.

Abhi also managed the sourcing of materials to ensure the highest quality products were procured within budget and within schedule. This proactive approach to project management, facilitated through seamless communication, efficient problem-solving, and meticulous attending to details, resulted in the successful executive of this backyard renovation.
