Will my driveway installation require council consent?

Hardscaping work such as residential driveways generally won’t require council consent, however, it’s always best to confirm this with a specialist. If your driveway project includes any demolition, earthworks, retaining wall installations, fences, platforms or if the work is likely to come into contact with any electrical work or plumbing, council consent may be required. What driveway materials can I choose from? 

Concrete, asphalt and gravel driveways are some of the most popular options - with permeable paving being a new and innovative alternative. Concrete offers a wide variety of colour and stylistic options, while asphalt is more affordable but offers limited styles and durability. Gravel is a low maintenance driveway option but, to avoid stone movement, consider permeable paving. This helps with stormwater management and helps to keep pebbles in place.
