What is now affectionately referred to by friends as “The Resort” was once a tired, underutilised landscape until the Zones team stepped in to help bring it back to life.
Before embarking on their extensive landscape renovation, Te Ranga homeowners Shawn and Tania connected with their local Landscaping Consultant. They wanted to transform their backyard into a resort-style space that would allow them to take full advantage of the space and pursue their love of outdoor entertaining.
The existing property was no longer suiting Shawn and Tanias needs. The couple loved to host gatherings, especially outside, to make the most of Tauranga’s fantastic weather. But the gardens, decking, and structures were looking worse for wear and needed to be replaced.
After the initial consultation, the landscaping consultant presented a landscape concept and 3D renderings of the potential design. An integral part of the Zones process, these visual concepts help homeowners see exactly what their transformed space could look like so they can either move forward or make changes accordingly.
The concept stage was primarily dedicated to creating a design that focused on outdoor living and entertainment. The landscaping consultant worked with the couple to develop plans that would stand the test of time, as well as create a well resolved and useable garden that was a blend of the rural location and proposed relaxed subtropical style.
The build phase of the project was a collaboration between Shawn Williamson Builders and Zones. The team worked to install both the hardscaping and soft landscape design elements; with the site works involving planting specialists, general landscape contractors, builders, electricians, gas fitters, plumbers, and a retractable roof specialist.
Marrying the style of the new landscape with the established garden was an important part of the brief. In particular the landscaping consultant worked with the team on site to help coordinate this part of the project.
One of the focal points of the new design was the new Oztech retractable roof with two independent roofing areas; one over a dining area and another over the lounge. Each space incorporated lighting to create a seamless result and chic aesthetic.
The landscaping consultant’s experience as a landscape architect was evident during this project. They perfectly balanced the need for thorough planning as well as the ability to pivot mid-construction. The final result is a cosy, resort-style paradise that showcases Shawn and Tania’s love of outdoor living and entertaining.
With numerous seating, lounge, and dining areas, each space has a distinctive character and feel. The garden is a rich tapestry of materials and detailing which sets a lush backdrop for the upscale living areas. With a fully-functional barbecue space, outdoor kitchen, a spa-pool, firepit and multiple covered seating arrangements, there’s no shortage of places to hang out. The only issue is picking which one.
Shawn and Tania are thrilled and have this to say about their experience creating their new resort-style oasis:
“After many years of contemplating what to do with our tired, outdated outdoor area, we called Zones Tauranga to design & plan a new look for our rural home in Te Puke. They came up with great design ideas and were very easy to communicate with at all times. They were very hands on and always available for any discussions needed. We are beyond happy with the final outcome of our outdoor area, and still cannot believe it is ours. So enjoy having our family and friends over to enjoy it also. Everyone calls our new outdoor area ‘The Resort’ and it certainly feels like one.”
