Million Metres Streams is an online fundraising platform for restoring the banks of New Zealand waterways. Its goal is to raise funds to plant one million metres of waterway with native plants and trees. The initiative is led by the Sustainable Business Network in partnership with the Department of Conservation. Zones have partnered with the cause to support riverbank and stream projects throughout the country. You too can support a planting project at millionmetres.org.nz.
Million Metres is a project led by the Sustainable Business Network, in partnership with the Department of Conservation. Million Metres is an online crowdfunding platform, connecting Kiwis who care about the future of our waterways. With new region projects popping up every month, there is always a local waterway to restore. The end-goal? Support communities by replanting 1 million metres of New Zealand rivers by 2026.
This month we are celebrating our membership and contributions which have already had an impact on the streams of New Zealand.

There are too many pollutants in our waterways which has been caused by the loss of native forests, intensive agriculture, urbanisation and the clearing of wetlands.
All freshwater scientists agree that riparian planting is vital to the health of our freshwater ecosystems. Planting helps stabilise the banks of waterways, reduces erosion, filters pollutants and restores native habitat for wildlife.
